The gasstation that exploded I passed everysingle day for 3 and a half months during my stay in Colaba. I also read that there was some kind of explosion at the backside of Taj Mahal wich where the place where most of my classmates where staying. 

I can´t help but thinking of the faces I met everyday that could have ended up dead or injured today. Mumbai is a part of my heart and I am very much concerned for its people.

So the internet in India is growing. So is the influence from other countries where love and the freedom to express love is all over the news. So of course Internet dating becomes a “safe” place to communicate and learn how to meet people of the other sex. This makes it also more possible to make friends of the opposite sex without having to deal with the interference of the rest of the family or society.

Some 51 percent of the Indian Urban inhabitants with access to the Internet use internet dating sites “48% frequent matrimonial sites, and 44% belong to the social networking site Orkut. 37% of all Indian internet users undertake both online matrimonial and dating/friendship activities, up from 9% last year. “[1].

Text messaging is also huge, even bigger actually. This is because the dating sites require more money to use than a mobile phone and the cost of a text message. Today, almost everybody has a mobile phone in India

As I see it is of huge importance that men and women from an early age learn to form relationships. These relations are the ones who will form the society of tomorrow. If India wants to be a part of the new world economy, they have to learn how to communicate and form relations in all forms of society. The gender class is a huge issue here, and there is a clear distinction for the rights of women and men. The cities is getting more and more westernized in the matchmaking and dating area but still has a long way to go.

This question as its putted can only be answered with a yes. Cuz they will and they have already done that. This dos not mean it will be like that in all different aspects of the problem.

If you also would like me to motivate I would appreciate it if you told me so. But I can do that anyhow. Actually the way you put your question like a yes or no answer, is how the old world used to be. Nowadays I believe that is not what we need to focus on. Again it is the process of continuation and reflection over our daily life that can save this planet from extortion. So India is as I said already learning. They have more engineers in this country probably more than in the rest of the world together. They lack common knowledge as I mentioned earlier in the answer to Allan Webber such as the illiteracy rate is 40 percent or 450 million people. So there is some work to be done here. How much of a difference can one make if you live in a world where reading is a part of your own freedom and you do not understand what the train sign says.

India is a growing economy. They talk a lot about their economy and their middle class is exploding right now incomes wise but of course also knowledge wise. They do so by trade, a lot of that comes from America and China. These influences will be the standards that we set for India to develop as a growing economy in the 21th century. No growing economy or even a small Buddhist nation like Tibet is today given the opportunity to grow without having clear discussions with the rest of the world on who they are, how they think, and what they can contribute with. So this is very much a global thing. A wont to tell anybody thinking about that India needs to learn faster how the world cannot take much more of a non proactive approach to the global issues that they are the ones that needs to work with these issues. How can you tell a child that is growing up that they do they wrong thing all the time, not providing them with what you think is wrong and also at the same time behaving in the same way. We as westerners not only needs to walk the talk but also understand that it is a global problem we are facing if we want to solve it. India will not learn alone from us but learn from their self as the west did when they explored what didn’t work.

Will they recognize earlier in their economic & social development that material resources are finite yet human resources as creativity innovation & expression are infinite?

First of all you can’t compare Indias situation with the one of the western world their isn’t really the two. A part of the British empires big wealth is based upon the act of war and terror against India They where the one who in the 1850 got read of the guru schools and wanted to educate the Indian people in a more civilized and fact wise way. This could be the big reason why India today doesn’t reflect so much on their impact of the rest of the world. Before that they were one of the wealthiest economies in the world. Today India can of course exploit other countries by warfare and trade such as the US also has done in Iraq in the name of the black gold. But every situation is unique.

In this question also you say that human beings is infinite. Well I don’t think they are. They are just as mortal as the Dinosaurs. Therefore nothing is infinite in its form and what we believe will also be finite some day or rather transformed. All tough I do agree that if we want the human resources to last longer we need to consider how to save the things necessary for human beings to live. Rember again though the very poor and not so educated people and how that gap between them and the rest of the world is something that other people really benefits from in the short run but kills everybody in the long term. If someone digs a whole in the ground the stuff that used to be in that place is now somewhere else.

So there is now earlier, there is only now. And now India has the number one religious country in the world. This tales that used to be the walking sayings of Krishna and other mortals is now rules that the Indian society is based upon. This is a perfect example on the really high knowledge from the old Brahmins on the power of mind and belief systems. The global movement of achieving high spiritual values is bigger than anytime today. The collective Indian mass is freeing itself from old religious belief systems by going the American and capitalist way. While a lot of people from the west is examinating themselves on the spiritual paths. The will only meet when they both have missed eachoter. Dialoge though is the seed to the answer of the understatement of the question.          

As we as human beings is forming our behavior from the feedback we get from our environment we live in, this is what we need to work with. We need to talk, reflect and act thereafter, knowing the knowledge of learning.

Will India achieve a true global consciousness that recognizes the unique contribution of all cultures?

Yes as much as anybody else. So will Sweden do that. Yes they will. But as they do so the contribution and the states of the world will emerge at the same time. Today India is in a state of change and it’s the old boiled frog metaphor. Maybe this “true” global consciousness has already happened. And that is why you recognize it in a question. This is a funny question Al. First you would have to define the “Indian people” better to get an answer that you want. I will just say that the Indian people is the most specific thing that you could pinpoint to be the reason for their success and how they handle it slow. The Indian people is a very very diverse people, of religion, income, language and education wise. Different people are handling the transition in a way that generally makes the people in coping with each other and with other nationalities.

From the 1950s to the early 1990s India was in some kind of “anti” British rule. They didn’t want to interfere in a market that was touched by the British. This is changed today after one of the worst handling of poverty in human history. Today, there is none or very little problem with people starving. Even though the income for 33 percent or 400 million is less than one dollar a day and for 400 people is less than two dollars a day.
So the poverty during the second part of the 20th century has formed a big will long away from the Nehru socialistic (almost communistic) way of living to being part of the globe as one of the major players of the global market.
The people you meet on the streets as a tourist or student in Mumbai is very much interested in you because of that you’re a westerner. They seem to truly believe that having a big faith and a system of religious believes doesn’t help them enough in this life. Bollywood is a perfect example of this when agents try to find loads of westerners in the streets of the tourist area of Colaba, Mumbai everyday. It’s the feeling of anticipation that you could smell from the melting pot of the city and all people of India wants to be a part of this new India. Today 8 million or so lives in the slums of Mumbai of a total of 17 million. More people are doing so everyday and the reason for doing that is because a house in the slum provides a much better income than that of the rural areas of India. A lot of people comes from the areas of Tamil Nadu wich is really the longest distance you can move from within India, this is also where the Tsunami strike the most.
The Indian people as I See it is a very proud and happy people. They also have a high morale of working. As I mentioned the slums in Mumbai, one of this parts is cold Daravi. In this area of what looks from the outside to be just people living in misery really is an industry of clothes produces for big shops as Wall Mart and the like, bakeries, pot making industries and recycling of plastic. What this area is lacking thou as in the former mentioned area of Tamil Nadu is rights for the workers. They have no unit to go to neither do they have any right. People try to work their way up and some people do. Others that hurt themselves in this industries have not much to do in this dog eat dog mentality than to rely on other people or start beging for money. There is suppose to be a free healthcare plan for every citizen of India but that is not the actual case.
Talking about beggars there is a lot of them. Especially in the tourist areas. They make quit a good living even though there is to many different types of beggars to define here. This is something that I believe will fade away us the handicapped and mentally ill and the literacy rate continues to increase. There is also a need for this specific people to be helped by targeting them and locating the source of the reason for them living on the street.
I have very little more knowledge of the rural area of India. How they are coping I mostly base on assumptions. One is that the control they have over the monsoon is worse than ever as global warming is a big problem in India when little knowledge of modern farming, and communication between different states and people is difficult because of language and the lack of technique. Mobile phones is good to mention here as they are one of many important sources of why I believe the India is growing so fast know. They internet is still about to boom as most people still can’t find a computer at home.
There is two other really important reasons for India’s success right now. The first is that more and more people knows the English language, making trades possible in to a much larger extent than fore many other countries. The other is the big amount of good educated people. If you want to outsource something to India it is not like in China that you just tell the Chinese company to do as they are told, no you can get the entire design made for the new Levis or Diesel made in the country.

Do they feel any change in their status in the world?
They do feel the change and they are very much a part of it. It is extraordinary thinking how big step up the ladder a college degree could provide you if you compare it to living within the caste system that for so long time has been the case for most Indians. It not only gives the middle class a change of their lives but it also will develop the higher castes who soon enough just cant have their name as something to rely on. I tell you this because I think as long as improvement doesn’t give you anything back to yourself in return, the working morale will be very low. No that India is slowly becoming more of a democracy in reality and not only on paper, people wants to be a part of that.
A lot of the highly educated people travels and studies abroad. The US is the contry that they very much compare themselves with. Economic is very important for the Indian people and is as I hear in people today close to what I would compare it most have been in Europe during the revolutionary times in france late 18th century. The church (caste system) is no longer strong enough to cover the needs of an individual thinking person with opportunities to communicate with the whole world.
A good story of this is also from the slums we visited. We where asked if we wanted to visit one of the homes as a tour guides family stayed in the area. As we agreed we entered a small and narrow room where we found to sisters sleeping on the floor and one young man studying at the end of that very same room, as what seemed to be the kitchen. Mum and dad also came in and it was really nice and really crowded. What would you think whas the discussion in this slum home of this family, take a second gueass, the stockmarket. India whas at this time really loosing (as where the US) ground, diving at the lowest it been for a very long time.

Is there more economic equity among the people as Indian economic performance grows?
Yes, and No.
This is a hot question. This is because the Indian person doesn’t seem to know the answer themselves. I asked the pro vice chancellor of Mumbai University if the tax system is providing the opportunity for a society that will be an equally rights society if the money is well spent for the people?
He answered with a complaint first of all of high corruption ( which a believe slowly will diminish as people get more educated and rich by their own) but also that it wont. The system will not provide this security for its people. This is very sad and also what I believe to be India’s greatest challenge to overcome.
So I guess I would answer you that no the equity will not be much improved but the people will be much richer compared to the standards today. When more money comes in to one system more of that system will manifest itself.
India therefore needs to sit down and look at the system and make it multiply to see if that is the way it wants to get formed. Probably the sitting parties today who already is enjoying this system there working in will not change anything. What is therefore needed is that new people or parties identify this problem of not having a and different vision of the future.

Ar riktigt trott efter en veckas hart arbete men samtidigt helt overlycklig. Langtar nog egentligen mer efter att krypa ner och lasa en god bok. Ja e for gammal hehe.

Febrig som jag var tog Siri mer kommando idag och fick exekuvera vissa for mig da overmanskliga saker som att sammanstalla var research ifran boende och att ga pa date med Indier. Det ser nu ut som vi har hittat ett mycket bra alternativ och det ar att alla bor de forsta tva veckorna pa ett stalle som med 10 procents rabbat borde sluta pa 1800 kronor per person om vi bor tre i varje rum. Da ingar ocksa frukost. Jag och Siri har gjort ett sa gedigert resarch arbete att de som sedan vill flytta vidare kan komma till oss under dessa tva veckor for att fa tips om boende som passar deras smak och budget battre.  Aven om vi eventuellt tar en avstickare vi resarchare efter tva mycket intensiva veckor nagonstans. Naja det blir ju en officell overlamning (typ presentation av vart arbete) den sjatte som det ser ut nu.  Irja will tell you all about it imorgon pa basecamp dar vi ocksa ska forsoka narvara.

Vi har gatt pa en realestate kille som jobbar som bankir pa dagarna, festfixare och realestate pa fritiden. Han ar nog vad jag skulle vilja kalla for den nya Indiern manifesterad, javligt upp i varv. Vi ska kolla pa lagenheter 5 eller 6 stycken imorgon vid ett tiden indisk tid. Folks dont get your hopes up.  Ni forstar sakert om ni laste min blogg igar om hotellet fran helvete..  Om det skulle vara fina sa tanker vi oss att de kan bli intresseanta att hyra forst ifran 2 veckor efter ankomst d.v.s den 18e mars. Om de ar sa maste jag och Siri aka pa brollop i Rajastan dar en Raja (kung och businessman) ska gifta bort sin dotter. Vi som vasterlanningar ar bra som profil pa deras brollop. Naja, det far vi se da. Realestate killen som for ovrigt heter Sanny kan vi dock hyra for att fixa fester at oss i Mumbai. Han fixar allt ifran mat till Dj till musik och entre till heta klubbar. 10 000 ruppes utan lokal med dj sa han d.v.s ca 1700 svenska.

Jag har idag fatt kanna pa att ga in nya sandaler. Jag ar en tejpad stackare. Idag trodde vi verklige att yes dar satt den for boendet, men vi blev blasta pa konfekten kan man saga. Vi var pa Indian Tourist center vid Churgate och vi (siri) pratade sig in i hogsta honset (boss) kontor. Vi undrade om han kunde hjalpa oss att finna ett gemensamt boende hestl real estate. Detta avfardades av denna regeringens man. Han drog istallet upp telefonen och plockade fram sitt guldbekantade visitkort och talade teatraliskt om hur han pressade priserna for oss. 425 without breakfast kan you make it 490 with breakfastyes thats good, bla bla och jag ar bra och jag ar nobel bla bla bla. Visst gav det en viss misstanke men efter vi gick ifran korsningen vid fort fick vi se det indien som manga inte kommer vilja se pa vagen till jobbet (om nu inte det ar jobbet. ) Hotellet var varken billigt eller bra men vi fick alla fall tva xl pike med Incredible India tryckt pa sidan. Cool

Var pa yoga imorse ocksa pa yogic healtcare center. Detta var mer sjukhus mot specifika krampor an yoga ashala men lararen dar var sa fin narvarande och tryckte pa min tumme for att fixa min rygg osv. Jag har hans uppfigter och han ska lara mig att ga ner i brygga fran stande pa sju dagar sa han. Han ville ocksa garna undervisa vart team om vi vill.
